The Governorship candidate of Labour party in Enugu State Dr Davison Nnamani said what happened in 2015 that swept People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) out of power would be a child’s play compared to the tsunami that would occur in 2023 general election.

Dr Nnamani who ran under the Peoples Democratic PArty, (PDP) for the House of Representatives in Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State in 2015 said the Peter Obi Fever has caught up with everyone unawares.

“It is a movement it is a political revolution that will sweep both the APC and PDP out of relevance. The good thing is that this is being driven by the youths who are over 60 percent of the Nigerian population

“The two political parties are already panicking because the signs are very clear. The youths are well energised for the battle to take back their country and that’s why you are witnessing mad rush for permanent voters register across the country.

“This has never happened before. It is very significant and instructive to see the youths coming out in numbers to express their solidarity and supports Labour party candidate.

“You are aware that before now, political parties used to use all maner of incentives to mobilise people to come out and register but today they are mobilising themselves for the same purpose. What does it show you?”

On his chances of becoming the next Governor of Enugu State under the Labour Party knowing fully well that the State is 100 percent controlled by PDP, Dr Nnamani said the party did not have the same grip at the moment.

He said a lot of PDP members in Enugu State were not happy with the outcome of the last party primary elections and were already one leg out of the party.

According to him, “many of them were contemplating joining our party and very soon you will begin to see mass decamping of big wigs from the two major political parties”.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised the alarm over the alleged unlawful detention of Igbo youths, fathers and mothers in the northern part of the country.

The group said the detainees were unlawfully abducted and moved to military facilities in North while some were killed.

Its Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful, in a statement, described the act as pure “human rights violation of a particular race” “racial profiling, violation of freedom of worship, discrimination and persecution”.

It appealed to the International community to prevail on Nigeria Government and its security agents to discharge all the detainees.

The statement partly reads: “We wish to condemn the continued and unlawful detention of Igbo youths, fathers and mothers in Imo State, Anambra State, Enugu State, Abia state and Ebonyi State detention facilities in the North more especially in Wawa military barracks at Kenji (Kainji) Niger State.

“The people were unlawfully abducted and moved to the North since one year ago, they were being detained incommunicado, all efforts made by their lawyers, family and associates were rebuffed by Nigeria Government and her security agents in Wawa military barracks of Niger State.

“We hereby bring to global consciousness the attitude of the Nigerian police/Military in whose custody our Igbo people are denied of their fundamental human right. (Nation)

The Senate, Tuesday, passed for concurrence, the National Youth Service Corps Trust Fund Bill 2022.

Also passed were three other bills to establish the Institute of Credit Administration; Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship Saki; and Repeal and Re-enact the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Act.

The bills were sponsored by the Deputy Senate Leader, Ajayi Boroffice (APC, Ondo North).

The four bills for concurrence, from the House of Representatives, were all passed by the upper chamber, after a clause-by-clause consideration by the Committee of the Whole.

The Senate has identified terrorists’ enclaves in communities within three local government areas of Kwara and Niger States, respectively.

Accordingly, the chamber, on Tuesday, urged the Military to carry out a comprehensive onslaught of bandits and criminal elements within Kainji Lake National Park and the identified communities.

The names of communities given by the chamber include Kaiama, Karonzi-Yashikira in Baruten local government, and Wawa and Babanna areas in Niger State.

These formed part of resolutions reached by the Senate after it considered a motion on the “worsening insecurity in Kainji Lake National Park and existential threat to communities in Kaima, Baruten and Borgu Local Government in Kwara and Miger States.”

The motion was sponsored by Senator Sadiq Sulieman Umar (Kwara North), and Co-sponsored by the Deputy Whip, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Niger North).

In his presentation,  Senator Umar noted that, “kidnapping and other forms of criminality is becoming a recurrent decimal in communities close to Kainji Lake National Park particularly Nanu. Nuku, Woro, Kale in Kaiama and Yashikira in Baruten local Government of Kwara State and some part of Borgu Local Government in Niger State.

“This has led to people living in perpetual fear of either being kidnapped and or Killed by kidnappers suspected to be armed bandits;

“Further notes that Kainji Lake National Park covers an area of about 5,341km square with deep forest Vegetation. This park which is reserved for tourism is becoming fort-filed in harboring bandits and other forms of criminals;

“Also notes that park rangers meant to man this park could no longer protect the forest reserve as they have lost control of the park to terrorist;

“Worried that people living in these communities are predominantly farmers and their means of livelihood is threatened by the activities of these criminals as many are leaving their villages and farms to seek refuge in the towns that will soon be threatened as well if nothing is done about this insecurity situation. In fact, some communities have started paying the criminals some sort of tax to be allowed to stay safe;

“Aware that the first incident occurred in year 2008 which led to the death of several Local Vigilante group members in an attempt to dislodge these criminals from the Kainji Lake National Park;

“Also aware that there is a Forward Operating Base (FOB) established immediately after the first attacks and subsequent approval for the establishment of Military barrack in the local government, but these attacks keeps on happening with reckless abandon; and

“Cognizant that in this year 2022 alone, several cases of kidnapping were reported in villages like Nanu, Nuku, Woro, and so on with several people reported dead. Others who returned were released after the payment of millions of Naira.”

The Senate, in its resolutions, mandated the Committees on Defence; Finance and National Planning to jointly inter-face with the Ministry of Defence to determine status of the establishment and funding of Army Barrack in Kaiama and Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Babanna in Kwara and Niger States, respectively.

It urged the military authorities to carry out a comprehensive onslaught on bandits and other criminal elements within Kainji Lake National Park, especially Kaiama, Karonzi -Yashikira in Baruten local government, and Wawa and Babanna areas in Niger state.

The chamber also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to send relief materials to victims in the affected communities

There are clear indications that the Labour Party Candidate and the former Governor of Anambra State Mr Peter Obi may have shifted attention to the National Conscience Party, (NCP) Chairman and spokes person for the Third Force, Dr Yunusa Tanko.

The move according to a source close to the party was informed by the deadlock in talks between Obi’s camp and that of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State.

Our source further revealed that majority of Obi’s supporters have become impatient over the unending talks with Kwankwaso and have shifted interest to Dr Tanko who they believe would be a good bridge between the youths and the old block.

He observed that, “Tanko who is about fifty years old and much younger than Kwankwaso will appeal to the youths who are driving the power shift more than someone who is over sixty years old.

“It is Obi who is the rallying point here and not Kwankwaso so why the bluffing. We can no longer beg him. Let us see how far he can go without Peter Obi”.

The group rooting for Tanko as the running mate to Obi, our source further added was of the opinion that the NCP man had been more consistent and stable in ideology than Kwankwaso who had been jumping from one political party to another before finally ending up with New Nigeran Party, (NNP).

The source who expressed optimism about the final emergence of the NCP Chiltern further added that, “the good thing is that Dr Tanko is from Kano like Kwankwaso so his choice will be a good substitute to him, (Kwankwaso).

Similiarly social media influencer and a popular public comentator, Mr Majeed Dahiru has lended his voice to the push for Dr Yunusa Tanko to run with Peter Obi in place of Kwankwaso for the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking on African Independent Television, (AIT) prime morning programme, Kakaaki, he opined that people are canvassing for Peter Obi candidacy and not for the running mate.

Dahiru further stressed that with the sudden rise in the profile of Labour Party in less than two months after Peter Obi became the candidate was a proof that with or without Kwankwaso his popularity would not diminish.

He noted that what was happening currently could be basically termed a revolution that would usher in a new order in the country ‘s political land scape that would shock many.

Convinced that Labour Party parades the best Presidential candidate, members of the two majority parties in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress in North Senatorial District of Imo State on Sunday collapsed their structures into the Labour Party and pledged their loyalty and support to its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

No fewer than 2,000 people joined the LP at a ceremony at Umuaro community in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

A former Deputy Chief of Staff to a former governor of the state, Chikwem Onuoha, said that the decision was reached after an investigation revealed that Obi was the best presidential material among other presidential candidates.

Onuoha said that the APC and the PDP had misruled Nigeria for the past 23 years, adding that it was time Nigerians voted Obi to rescue the country.

The APC chieftain said, “Today, the APC and the PDP are dead in Okigwe zone. We have resolved to collapse our structures in the zone into the Labour Party and to work for the victory of Peter Obi. Peter Obi symbolises the hope of the ordinary people of Nigeria.

“Peter Obi is tested and trusted and he has the support of the people who vote during the election. Apart from Obi, we will vote LP all through. The Labour Party is for a mass movement. We are wiser and we want to take back our country.”

The President General of the Okigwe North Youth Progressives Forum, Chidinma Onyenagubo, said that his group was mobilising people to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to vote for LP In 2023.(Punch).
