Super Eagles of Nigeria lost 1-0 in their 2nd friendly game against Ecuador at the 25,000 capacity Red Bull Arena stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. 

This is the second friendly game the Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro is handling after a 2-1 loss to Mexico on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Peseiro stated that his side deserved at least a penalty in the course of the game, but admitted his side struggled during the encounter. 

He also stated “Of course, I don’t want to speak about the referee but at least one penalty. No VAR but at the start of the show, there was a clear penalty. The goalkeeper touched the foot of our striker. “I don’t know but I was told we had another penalty also but the referee didn’t give it to us. But it is okay, anybody can commit mistakes. Even the players can make mistakes also”

“Today in the first half we didn’t do well but in the last 25 minutes. Only in the first 50 minutes, we didn’t play like we should but they commanded the match after 50 minutes. 

The second half much better but it is not easy to put pressure on opponents for 90 minutes. Today, we played better than against Mexico. I hope we will take this today to our AFCON match against Sierra Leone.” 

Next game up for the Super Eagles is a 2023 African Cup Of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja,on Thursday 9th June.

Manchester United interim Manager Ralf Rangnick has officially left United with immediate effect, despite having a two year role as a consultant on the way.

Rangnick who has completed his tenure as the interim manager was set to become a consultant at United and work alongside new manager Erik Ten Hag.

Rangnick has now decided to step away from United with immediate effect to focus on his new commitments as manager of the Austrian national team.

In a statement released by United, they said “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months.

“By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”

Japan’s Naomi Osaka crashed out of the French Open in a 7-5 6-4 first-round loss to American Amanda Anisimova on Monday.

This is coming a year after her dramatic withdrawal from the clay court Grand Slam tournament amid mental health issues.

Up against 27th seed Anisimova, four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka never looked comfortable on her least favourite surface as she struggled to control her powerful game.

The first three games all went against serve in a tense start but Anisimova held to go 3-1 ahead.

A backhand error by Anisimova allowed Osaka to level for 3-3, but a double-fault in the 11th game allowed Anisimova to move 6-5 up and she held serve to love to take the set.

Anisimova broke decisively for 4-3 in the second set as Osaka again double-faulted.

After a couple of match-points went begging, Anisimova finished it off with a stunning backhand winner down the line.

Osaka withdrew from the tournament in 2021 after boycotting post-match media duties for mental health reasons.

The Japanese at that time had revealed she had been suffering from depression for almost three years.

She returned to competitive tennis at the Tokyo Olympics after the saga cast a spotlight on players’ post-match media duties.

City‘s celebrations continued long into the night after the incredible final day of the Premier League season saw them retain the title in a stunning fashion.

It appeared City were heading for a shock defeat at home against Aston Villa at 2-0 down with 14 minutes left to play, however City scored three goals in five minutes, with an Ilkay Gundogan brace and a Rodri strike, City  retained the Title at the Etihad Stadium at the expense of Liverpool.

According to Daily Mail, o celebrate their success after the final game of the season, City stars took to the Ivy restaurant in Manchester city centre where the first-team players, their WAGS and manager Pep Guardiola partied until 3am before leaving bleary eyed following the end of a gruelling campaign.
City manager Pep Guardiola said his side are “legends” after they secured their fourth Premier League title in five seasons.

This is Guardiola’s 11th trophy in six years since coming to England.

Liverpool won 3-1 at home to Wolves but that wasn’t enough to stop Manchester City defending their title.

Tammy Abraham wrapped up 1st season in Italy with 17 goals as AS Roma go into the Europa Conference League final with confidence after thrashing Torino 3-0.

Abraham left the Premier League to Serie A last summer, as he moved from Chelsea to join Jose Mourinho’s side, in a deal worth a reported £34 million.

Thomas Tuchel had dropped Abraham from the first XI when taking over from Frank Lampard in January 2021, and he was not in the squad for the Champions League final.

On Friday, Roma wrapped up their final game in the league with a 3-0 win over Torino, confirming their top six finish and a place in next season’s Europa League.

Lewis Hamilton is excited with the improvements Mercedes have made ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

According to Sky Sports,A beaming Lewis Hamilton said he was “super happy” with Mercedes’ start to the Spanish GP as he hailed much-needed progress in Friday’s practice sessions after debuting upgrades on their W13 car.

Nigeria and Ghana edged closer to the India 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualification with the final round, first leg victories over Ethiopia and Morocco respectively on Friday.

The West African duo got one hand on the tickets as the Nigerians pipped Ethiopia 1-0 in Addis Ababa, while the Ghanaians defeated Morocco 2-0 in Accra.

Sam Kerr was Chelsea’s hero once again as her double helped the Blues to a 3-2 extra-time victory in the Women’s FA Cup final against Manchester City, adding to their Women’s Super League title from last weekend.The striker scored two stunning goals on Sunday to help seal a third successive WSL win for Chelsea, and stepped up again at Wembley to help steer her side to victory.

According to Sky Sports,Kerr opened the scoring against the run of play in the 33rd minute, nodding home from Millie Bright’s right-wing cross. The defender’s delivery looked goal-bound, but Kerr was there to help it on its way.

City came from behind twice to force extra-time, the first from a superb Lauren Hemp goal. The winger beat Bright on the left of the area before curling a superb effort into the far corner.It is a game Chelsea won despite being second best for much of the match.

City dominated possession and shots – registering 23 to Chelsea’s nine – but found themselves thwarted by an inspired Berger, particularly in the second half.

Sunday’s defeat is also the first time Man City have lost an FA Cup final, winning on their first three appearances.

It ended in Joy for Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye as a season of turbulence finally ended in total excitement for Sparta Rotterdam as the Red and White secured a 3-1 win over Heracles to escape relegation on the final day of season.

With the result Sparta finished 14th with 35 points, a point above the relegation waters.

Super Eagles goalkeeper was a prominent feature for the team, making 30 league appearances. He also made 97 saves in the league.

Maduka’s stay with Sparta comes to an end, as he is expected to link up with Watford, with whom he signed a deal in the winter window.
