It has been a roller coaster journey for Celtic as they move six points clear in the Scottish Premiership title race after goals from Tom Rogic and Cameron Carter-Vickers saw them come from behind to beat Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox.

Rangers were quick off the mark and just after captain James Tavernier curled a free-kick past the far post, Aaron Ramsey gave them the lead, while on-loan Juventus midfielder fired home a cross from Ryan Kent on his first Old Firm appearance.

Kent almost added to the scoreline soon after, but his close-range effort went just past the post.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of Celtic.

Celtic will be at home against St Johnstone on 9 April in the final round of Scottish Premiership fixtures before the split, while Rangers are away to St Mirren on 10 April.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returned to action after being forced to withdraw from Nigeria’s squad that faced Ghana in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs following a positive test for COVID-19.

Okoye was left out of the Super Eagles squad that missed the World Cup ticket to the Black Stars of Ghana.

Fans even alleged that the former Fortuna Düsseldorf goalkeeper deliberately missed the playoffs to avoid being under scrutiny after he was blamed for Super Eagles’ ouster at 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Watford bound keeper was impressive behind the sticks as Sparta Rotterdam faced Hereenveen in a Dutch Eredivisie match on Sunday.

Okoye put up a great shift in the 1-1 draw.

The 22-year-old was in impeccable form for Sparta in March, keeping a clean sheet in their two league games.

World soccer ruling body FIFA has banned Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja indefinitely, following the pitch invasion by angry fans, the Stadium will not be used for international matches indefinitely.

This comes as a result of the ugly incident that followed the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of Ghana’s Black Stars.

The angry fans invaded the pitch, wreaking havoc and destroying the newly refurbished stadium.

Though, FIFA had indefinitely suspended the usage of the stadium, there are insinuations that Nigeria will still suffer further sanctions as FIFA and CAF are yet to meet to ascertain further sanctions to be meted out to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for failing to provide adequate security for the game.

It would be recalled that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee, in May 2006,sanctioned Nigeria with a $5,000 for poor crowd control at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, where the Super Eagles hosted Egypt in a Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier in March.

The organisers of the match allowed a crowd of over 40,000 inside the stadium designed to hold 25,000 spectators.

The Super Eagles and the Pharaohs drew 1-1 in that game, with the Egyptians subsequently defeating Nigeria 1-0 in the return fixture to stop the Eagles from qualifying for the competition.

Also at the 2000 African Cup of Nations tournament co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana, Nigeria was sanctioned by CAF following crowd encroachment on the pitch in the Quarter Final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Teranga Lions of Senegal at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The game had gone on extra time with Julius Aghahowa scoring a goal that fans thought was a Golden goal.

In wild jubilation, they invaded the pitch before security operatives restored calm for the resumption of the match, however
Nigeria was heavily fined for that breach of security.

Emeka Ezeugo, a former Nigerian International who represented the country in the FIFA World Cup in 1994 has blamed former Super Eagles Stars for helping Amaju Pinnick led administration push the country’s football back to one of its dark ages.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has advocated for the sack of the current Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The former Abia State Governor made this statement after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles crashed out thanks to away goal rule, after the two legged game with Ghana ended 1-1.

“What a sad night for all soccer lovers! It is high time the entire Management of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is overhauled,” Orji Uzor Kalu wrote via Facebook.

“In the past five years, we have exercised patience with incompetence that should ordinarily be the best, not just in Africa, but the world. The reality is that football is the same with science courses like Medicine and Engineering where you can’t cut corners, otherwise, you produce quack and incompetent people.

“The Federal Government and Nigerians have supported the NFF beyond measures and since they can’t give us the needed result, they should be sacked for a better and more tactical management,” he concluded.

Portugal qualified for Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to Bruno Fernandes double goals in their play-off final win over North Macedonia.

Fernandes won the ball in midfield, played a one-two with Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and fired home from the edge of the box to open the scoring in Porto.

He then volleyed in Diogo Jota’s cross for the second having helped start the move himself outside his own box.

The Macedonians, who stunned Italy in the semis, offered little throughout.

They never looked like reaching a first World Cup as they failed to test Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa once.

Portugal qualify for their sixth World Cup in a row with 37 year old Ronaldo, going to the tournament for a fifth and potentially final time.
